Kano to host 2026 Renewed Hope Football Cup for Northern Youths
Kano State is set to host the 2026 edition of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Football Cup, with the two-week interstate tournament expected to feature young footballers from the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tagged “The Game Changer,” the competition will use football as a tool to promote peace, unity, youth development and social cohesion while providing young talents with an opportunity to showcase their abilities.
The Special Adviser on Sports and Youth Development to the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Sani Musa Danja, said the tournament would provide a positive platform for engaging young people and discouraging involvement in social vices.
He added that the competition would also help strengthen relationships and foster unity among youths across Northern Nigeria.
Technical Director of the tournament, Dr Abdulgafar Oladimeji, said the event would contribute to the growth of grassroots football in the region through talent discovery, capacity building for coaches and support staff, and increased social interaction.
According to him, the tournament is also expected to generate economic opportunities and boost local businesses during the competition.
The tournament will begin with a group-stage phase before progressing to the knockout rounds, with the grand final scheduled to take place at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.

🥈 Runner-up — ₦5 million
🥉 Third place — ₦2 million
The organisers said the prize money is designed to reward excellence, encourage youth productivity through sports and strengthen relationships among communities across Northern Nigeria.
With football at the heart of the initiative, “The Game Changer” is set to bring together young talents from across the North in a tournament focused on peace, unity and youth development.
