Former Nigerian international Dimeji Lawal has expressed disappointment after the Super Eagles suffered a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Bissau.

 Nigeria struggled to impose themselves on the game as the hosts took an early lead through Franculino Dju, who opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a well-placed effort beyond goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

 Guinea-Bissau extended their advantage in the 66th minute when Mama Baldé found the net, before Álvaro Djaló completed the scoring deep into stoppage time to seal a convincing victory for the hosts.

 Speaking to Completesports.com after the match, Lawal criticised Nigeria’s approach while maintaining that the defeat does not end their qualification hopes.

 “I expected the team to take the game straight to their hosts, but we allowed them to dominate and created very few chances to threaten their goalkeeper,” Lawal said.

 “I really feel disappointed with this result, but that is not the end of the world because there are still many matches to play in the group. I am still optimistic the Super Eagles will top the group.”

 The result leaves Guinea-Bissau top of Group L with six points from two matches, having previously defeated Tanzania 2-0.

 Nigeria, meanwhile, remain on three points after beginning their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar.
