Morocco’s Atlas Lions have moved up to fifth place in the live FIFA rankings, overtaking Brazil after the South Americans were held to a 1-1 draw by Australia.

 Morocco have accumulated 1,803.99 points, edging Brazil’s 1,802.90 to reach their highest-ever position in the rankings.

 The achievement also matches the highest ranking ever attained by an African nation, equalling Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ fifth-place peak in 1994. Morocco’s rise has been remarkable, having climbed from 58th in 2016.

 The milestone has sparked celebrations among Moroccan supporters, who see the ranking as another sign of the national team’s steady progress. Spain, Argentina, France and England occupy the positions ahead of Morocco.

 The Atlas Lions also began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on Friday night with a match against Gabon.
