NDSF: Governor Oborevwori commits to enhancing sports in Delta State
The Delta State Government has pledged to advance sports development at the grassroots level by enhancing sporting facilities and creating avenues for young talents to excel.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori made this commitment during a speech delivered on his behalf at the opening ceremony of the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) held at the Uyo Township Stadium on Wednesday.
In his address, delivered by Senator Emmanuel Aguarivwodo, the governor emphasized the role of sports as "a powerful tool for social cohesion, personal achievement, and national pride."
He further stated, "Globally, nations invest in sports not merely for entertainment but as a means to engage youth, instill discipline, and promote healthy lifestyles.
"In the Niger Delta, where our people exemplify resilience, energy, and determination, sports acts as a unifying force, dismantling barriers and creating pathways to greater opportunities."
Oborevwori announced that a contract has been awarded for the renovation of the Warri City Stadium, aligning with his administration's goal of fostering an environment where young individuals can express their talents.
"We are dedicated to nurturing grassroots sports, enhancing sports infrastructure, and supporting young athletes in their quest for excellence," he affirmed.
The governor also praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board for incorporating sports development into their intervention initiatives, stating, "I express my gratitude to the NDDC for organizing this significant event, which transcends mere competition. It is a celebration of our shared heritage, unity, and the limitless potential of our youth."
Oborevwori encouraged participants to strive for their best while upholding the principles of fair play. "Compete to win, but above all, compete to grow," he urged the athletes.
To the NDDC and the event organizers, Dunamis Icon, he expressed his commendation for their dedication.
