NFF sets September 26 for landmark elective congress
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially paved the way for its 2026 Elective Congress, scheduled for Saturday, 26th September 2026 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, following the successful Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) held on Monday, 23rd March 2026 at the D.S.P.
Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Delegates from across the country gathered to honour late football icons including former NFF Technical Director Chief Adegboye Onigbinde and ex-captain Henry Nwosu (MON), observing a one-minute silence in their memory.
The Congress lauded the unwavering support of the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, as well as the efforts of the National Sports Commission leadership, for advancing football development through generous rewards and robust preparations for international competitions.
Significant reforms also took center stage, with delegates unanimously approving amendments to the NFF Statutes, Electoral Code, and Standing Orders of the General Assembly, signaling a renewed commitment to transparent governance.
In a critical move ahead of the Elective Congress, twelve persons representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones were appointed to the NFF Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, tasked with overseeing a credible electoral process. The committees are set to be inaugurated in Abuja on Wednesday, 25th March 2026.
Adding further credibility to NFF operations, Ernst & Young (EY) was appointed as the Federation’s new Independent Auditor for a four-year term, succeeding PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) after nine years of service.
Finally, the EGA affirmed strong confidence in the leadership of NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, MON, for their ongoing efforts to develop football across Nigeria.
With governance reforms, strengthened oversight, and a clear electoral roadmap now in place, the 2026 NFF Elective Congress promises to be a landmark event in Nigerian football administration.
