NPFL: Rivers United, Barau set for Matchday nine showdown in Port Harcourt

Unbeaten Rivers United face a stern test on Sunday when they welcome Barau FC to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt for a Matchday Nine clash between two sides with contrasting strengths.

The Pride of Rivers have made an impressive start to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season and remain the only team yet to suffer defeat. With four wins and four draws from eight matches, Rivers United sit second on 16 points, just one behind leaders Enugu Rangers.

Their defensive solidity has been a major factor in their strong start, with only two goals conceded so far. They have also shown attacking quality, scoring 13 goals, despite being held to a goalless draw by Abia Warriors last weekend.

Playing at home, Rivers United will be determined to return to winning ways and maintain their unbeaten run as they continue to chase the top spot.

However, Barau FC will arrive in Port Harcourt with confidence and ambitions of their own. The Maliya Boys occupy fifth position with 13 points and have scored 12 goals, establishing themselves as one of the league’s most dangerous attacking sides.

After suffering a 4-1 defeat to Bendel Insurance, Barau responded with an entertaining 2-2 draw against league leaders Rangers, coming close to snatching all three points in an impressive display.

Sunday’s encounter promises an intriguing contest, with Rivers United’s disciplined defence set to face a Barau side that has shown it can trouble even the strongest opponents.

With both teams chasing valuable points, Rivers United will look to make home advantage count, while Barau will be eager to disrupt the hosts’ unbeaten run and strengthen their position among the league’s leading contenders.
