NWFL fines Osun Babes 2.5 million Naira over jersey breach
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has imposed a ₦2.5 million fine on Osun Babes FC for regulatory breaches that resulted in the failure to kick off their 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership fixture against FC Robo Queens in Lagos.
The match, scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Onikan Stadium, was abandoned before kick-off after Osun Babes listed as the away team failed to provide an alternative set of jerseys with clearly printed names and numbers. This was despite a confirmed colour clash with the home side’s kit.
Following the infringement, match officials declared a walkover in favour of FC Robo Queens, in strict compliance with NWFL regulations.
According to the League, Osun Babes’ actions breached multiple provisions of the NWFL Regulatory Framework. Article 10.3 mandates away teams to use their second-choice colours in the event of a colour clash, while Article 10.5 further requires the visiting side to change kits when the home team appears in its registered first-choice colours. The club was also found to have violated Article 14.7, which addresses the failure to honour a fixture without force majeure or acceptable justification.
As a result, the League fined Osun Babes ₦1 million for the jersey violation and an additional ₦1.5 million for failing to fulfil the fixture, bringing the total sanction to ₦2.5 million.
Explaining the decision, NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi stressed the League’s resolve to enforce professionalism across the Premiership.
“The NWFL remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and compliance. Our regulations are clear, and all clubs are expected to meet their obligations fully. These measures are necessary to protect the integrity and credibility of the NWFL and are not punitive for their own sake,” Shabi said.
The NWFL reaffirmed its commitment to fair play, discipline, and the orderly conduct of matches, while reminding all Premiership clubs to strictly adhere to league rules and operational requirements to avoid future sanctions.
