Niger State Governor Umaru Bago pays solidarity visit to Chairman Federal Character Commission
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has assured the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Omidiran, of his administration’s full support to ensure a successful tenure.
Governor Bago, popularly known as the “Farmer Governor,” gave the assurance during a solidarity visit to the FCC Chairman at her office in Abuja.
He underscored the strategic importance of the Federal Character Commission to national unity, noting that its mandate remains critical to fostering inclusiveness, equity, and a sense of belonging among Nigerians.
Expressing confidence in Hon. Omidiran’s capacity to reposition the Commission, Governor Bago referenced her legislative experience and track record at the National Assembly. He urged her to justify the confidence reposed in her by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by remaining fair, just, and committed to equitable representation across all parts of the country.
The Governor also invited the Commission to key into Niger State’s ongoing agricultural revolution, emphasizing his administration’s readiness to collaborate with federal institutions to drive sustainable development.
In her remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Hulayat Omidiran, reiterated that the Commission’s core mandate is to promote national unity and ensure that all Nigerians have a sense of belonging in the affairs of the country.
She assured that under her leadership, the Commission would sustain robust collaboration with stakeholders at all levels in pursuit of its statutory objectives, adding that the ultimate goal is to strengthen national cohesion and inspire pride among Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Federal Character Commissioner representing Niger State, Alhaji Isah Jibrin, commended Governor Bago for the visit. He noted that the Governor is the first to pay a solidarity visit since the new leadership of the Commission assumed office, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of his commitment to supporting the Commission’s mandate.
