Temitope Adeshina equals national record with 1.97m victory at Razorback Invitational
Nigerian high jumper Temitope Adeshina matched the national record after clearing 1.97m to win the women’s high jump at the Razorback Invitational on Friday.
The Texas Tech University athlete soared above a strong field to claim first place, finishing ahead of Ghana’s Rose Yeboah, who placed second with a best clearance of 1.94m.
Adeshina’s winning height equalled both her personal best and the Nigerian national record, marking the third time she has reached 1.97m in competition. She first achieved the mark at the NCAA Championships in June 2024, before repeating the feat at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships later that season to book her place at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Friday’s performance came just two weeks after Adeshina opened her 2026 campaign in impressive fashion at the Corky Classic, where she cleared 1.93m to record a season’s best and secure a comfortable victory.
At the Razorback Invitational, Adeshina also came close to rewriting the record books, producing narrow misses at 2.00m that hinted at even greater heights to come.
Her initial 1.97m jump in 2024 was historic, making her the first Nigerian woman to clear the height. That leap ended the long-standing national record previously held by Doreen Amata and also secured her qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
