Nigeria’s Flamingos have been crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup after completing a perfect campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Togo.

The Nigerian youngsters finished the competition unbeaten, recording five wins from five matches to underline their dominance throughout the tournament.

Captain Chidera Harmony was the star of the final, scoring twice from the penalty spot to give Nigeria a comfortable advantage before half-time.

Harmony converted her first penalty in the 15th minute before calmly dispatching another spot-kick 20 minutes later to send the Flamingos into the interval with a 2-0 lead.

Nigeria continued to control the contest after the restart, with Oluebube Umejiaku extending the advantage in the 67th minute.

The result was effectively beyond Togo by that stage, but the Flamingos continued to press for more goals as they sought to put the finishing touches to a remarkable campaign.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring in the 90th minute, making it 4-0 and triggering celebrations as Nigeria sealed the WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup title.

The triumph caps a remarkable tournament for the Flamingos, who combined attacking efficiency with defensive discipline on their way to a perfect record.

Nigeria had earlier opened their campaign with a 5-0 victory over Niger Republic before overcoming Ghana 4-2 in a six-goal thriller.  

They subsequently defeated Burkina Faso 2-0, with Mary Dunstan and Adegbuyi scoring late goals, before defeating hosts Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 through Adegbuyi and Pattra Oparanmegwa.  

The victory over Togo therefore completes a five-match winning streak for Nigeria, who have maintained their unbeaten status from the opening game through to the final.

For coach Hakeem Busari and his players, the title provides another significant boost ahead of Nigeria’s preparations for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The Flamingos had finished as runners-up at the inaugural WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup two years ago, making their 2026 triumph a step forward from their previous campaign. 

Harmony’s brace and goals from Umejiaku and Adegbuyi ensured Nigeria ended the tournament in emphatic fashion, while the five-from-five record underlines the consistency of their championship-winning campaign.

The Flamingos can now celebrate a perfect regional campaign as 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup champions — unbeaten, five wins from five and firmly established as the team to beat in the zone.
