Sade Olatoye wins silver in hammer throw at Islamic Solidarity Games
Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye delivered a strong performance to win the silver medal in the women’s hammer throw at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh on Tuesday.
Olatoye opened with 60.58m and steadily improved, hitting 61.91m in her second attempt before landing her best throw of the day, 63.34m in the third round. She followed with another impressive mark of 63.30m in the fourth, maintaining the lead for most of the competition.
However, Algeria’s Tatar Zhara snatched the top spot in the fifth round with a decisive throw of 63.55m. Olatoye attempted to respond but fouled her final two attempts, ultimately securing silver.
Uzbekistan’s Zarinakhon Nosirjonova finished third with a best throw of 61.69m.
Olatoye’s medal adds to Nigeria’s growing success in the field events in Riyadh, further boosting the nation’s athletics tally.
On the track, Chidera Ezeakor produced a standout run in the men’s 200m, clocking a new personal best of 20.72s, an improvement on his previous 20.77s set at the CAA Region II Championship in August. He placed second in his heat behind Saudi Arabia’s Abdulaziz Atafi (20.60s) and progresses to Wednesday’s final.
