Nigeria Set for Battle at 46th African Judo Championship in Abidjan

Nigeria’s Judo team is poised to make a strong impression at the 46th African Senior Judo Championship scheduled to hold in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from April 25 to 28, 2025.

The Nigerian contingent will compete in four weight categories: two for men and two for women. Michael Agbo will represent the country in the 66kg category, while Abubakar Sadik will battle in the 73kg category. In the women’s division, Ejirooghené will compete in the +78kg category, and Kafayat Azeez will fight in the 57kg class.

The team is accompanied by Assistant Coach Christiana Bolanle Victor and led by Chief National Judo Coach, Suleman Edibo Musa, who expressed confidence in the athletes’ readiness and fighting spirit.

“Our preparation has been intense and focused. These judokas are hungry to prove themselves on the continental stage, and we are optimistic of returning with medals,” said Coach Suleman Edibo Musa.

President of the Nigeria Judo Federation, Dr. Musa Oshodi, also expressed optimism ahead of the championship, stating that the Federation is committed to ensuring Nigeria returns to the top of African judo.

“This championship is a major step in our Olympic roadmap. We are proud of this team and believe they will represent the country with pride and determination. Our focus remains on continuous development and global competitiveness,” Oshodi remarked.

 

The African Judo Championships, organized by the African Judo Union, is one of the most prestigious events on the continent and will take place at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
