In a dazzling display of sports, unity, and vision, Nigeria took a significant step toward hosting the 14th African Armwrestling Championship and the 7th Para-Armwrestling Championship with the official unveiling of the tournament mascot and jerseys during a high-level fundraising gala held at the NAF Conference Center in Abuja.

The evening, filled with symbolism and purpose, marked more than just the launch of visual emblems—it was a celebration of Africa’s growing influence in global sport and a call to action for deeper investment in grassroots development.

 Spearheading the occasion was Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, whose presence and message set the tone for a night of inspiration and commitment.

“It’s more than just armwrestling,” Adeboye declared in his keynote address.

 “Today’s unveiling represents the heartbeat of a movement—one rooted in unity, discipline, and the limitless potential of African youth. With the overwhelming support we’ve seen tonight, I’m confident Nigeria will deliver the best African Armwrestling Championship in history come July.”

There was electricity in the air as the mascot, an animated symbol of strength, resilience, and African unity, made its debut. Bright, bold, and unmistakably African, the figure encapsulated the very values that define the championship’s mission.

The new team jerseys, proudly modeled before an enthusiastic audience, were hailed as more than fabric—they were described as garments woven with the aspirations and sacrifices of the athletes who will wear them into battle.

“These jerseys carry the dreams and sweat of our athletes,” Adeboye said.

 “Every competitor wearing them is already a champion. They are reminders that greatness comes from sacrifice, and that our flag—when lifted through sport—carries the hopes of a continent.”

The event was far from ceremonial. At its heart was a fundraising drive aimed at galvanizing support for what is expected to be the biggest armwrestling championship Africa has ever seen.

 Slated for July 23–27 in Abuja, the competition will host athletes from over 20 countries, with Nigeria promising a world-class experience both in hospitality and sporting excellence.

With applause echoing throughout the hall, Adeboye issued a powerful appeal to stakeholders, urging them to see their donations as investments—not just in a tournament, but in the very future of African sport.

“Your support tonight is not just financial—it’s transformational. Together, we can provide the equipment, the facilities, and the platform that these young athletes deserve,” he said.

The significance of the evening went beyond the armwrestling mats. It was a showcase of Nigeria’s leadership in continental sports, its capacity for organization, and its readiness to rise as a hub for unity-driven sporting events.

The presence of key figures in sports administration, politics, and development added gravitas to the message: that Abuja 2025 is not only about competition—it is about legacy.
