Nigeria step up AACT preparations as IBB Golf Club nears readiness
Nigeria is intensifying preparations for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), with the extensive rehabilitation of the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja providing a major boost ahead of the continental women’s team golf championship.
With just 29 days to the tournament, the Club’s Board of Trustees has assured that the facility will be ready to host golfers and officials from across Africa.
The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, CFR, gave the assurance after inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation works at the Club, expressing satisfaction with the progress recorded so far.
The IBB International Golf and Country Club has undergone significant rehabilitation following its closure to regular golfing activities for more than a year. Work has focused on the golf course, including selected holes, as well as the clubhouse and other facilities.
The scale of the rehabilitation underscores the importance attached to providing a befitting venue for the championship, as Nigeria prepares to welcome some of Africa’s leading female golfers to Abuja.
Justice Dongban-Mensem said the Club would be ready for the AACT, assuring stakeholders that the rehabilitation programme remains on course ahead of the November 2 opening.
The Chairman of the Club’s Interim Management Committee, Peter Deshi, has also expressed confidence in the progress of the rehabilitation, with golfing activities expected to resume at the facility before the championship.
For the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, the readiness of the host venue remains a key part of the country’s preparations. The President of the Association, Dr. Lami Ahmed, has similarly expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness to stage the continental championship.
The 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy is scheduled to take place from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.
As the countdown enters its final month, preparations at the host venue are gathering pace, with Nigeria putting the necessary facilities in place to welcome golfers and officials from across Africa to Abuja.
