Osimhen set for weeks out with groin injury, major blow to Super Eagles
Galatasaray have confirmed that Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen will be sidelined for up to weeks after sustaining a significant muscle injury to his right groin.
The Turkish champions revealed that an MRI scan and further examinations at Acıbadem Hospital showed a moderate-to-severe strain involving bleeding and muscle damage in Osimhen’s right adductor.
The 27-year-old forward was substituted during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday after appearing to suffer a muscle problem.
Osimhen is expected to spend between three weeks and one month on the sidelines, ruling him out of several important fixtures. He is set to miss Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League opener against Sporting Lisbon, as well as Turkish Super Lig matches against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
The injury is also a major concern for Nigeria, with Osimhen now expected to miss the Super Eagles’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches in September.
Nigeria are scheduled to take on Madagascar on September 23 before travelling to Guinea-Bissau four days later for their second qualifying fixture.
Osimhen’s absence would leave the Super Eagles without one of their most important attacking players as they begin their campaign to secure a place at the 2027 AFCON.
