Police Suspend Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit After Court Order

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit following a court directive halting the exercise.

Confirming the development on Wednesday, October 8, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the decision came after the police officially received the court order.

“Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received, and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” Adeh told AIT.

The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, had last week ordered the Police and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to suspend enforcement nationwide, directing both parties to maintain the status quo in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, filed by John Aikpokpo-Martins.

Adeh emphasised that the Police would comply fully with the judicial process, saying, “We are not against the courts; we will continue to wait until we get a verdict.”

She also clarified the purpose of the tinted glass regulation, explaining, “The law was not made by us. We are only enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven, as some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences.”

Adeh further dismissed claims that the policy was designed for financial gain, stressing that “all payments related to tinted permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), not to the Police.”
