SWAN hails Godwin Enakhena as Sporting Lagos secures NPFL promotion
The National Leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated veteran journalist and sports administrator Godwin Enakhena following the promotion of Sporting Lagos FC to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The Lagos-based club secured promotion from the Nigeria National League after a competitive campaign that confirmed their return to Nigeria’s top flight.
SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association's Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, described Enakhena’s achievement as a major milestone for both the club and its leadership.
“The National Executive Committee and entire membership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria extend our warmest congratulations to you on the remarkable achievement of guiding Sporting Lagos Football Club to promotion from the Nigeria National League to the Nigeria Premier Football League,” the statement read.
“This milestone is a testament to your visionary leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of football in Nigeria.”
Enakhena, who previously led MFM FC to NPFL promotion in 2013, also achieved a similar feat with Sporting Lagos in 2023 before sealing the latest success.
President Benjamin praised Enakhena’s consistency and leadership qualities, noting his longstanding contributions to sports journalism and football administration in Nigeria.
“The journey from the NNL to the NPFL is no small feat, and your success reflects the hard work, discipline, and resilience of the entire management, coaching crew, and players under your stewardship,” he added.
SWAN expressed optimism that Sporting Lagos will make a strong impact in the NPFL and further elevate the standard of club football in the country.
The association also commended Enakhena’s leadership as President of the 36 NNL Club Chairmen, wishing him continued success as he leads Sporting Lagos back to the NPFL, where he previously served as Club Owners' Secretary.
