Nigeria Volleyball Federation mourns board member Sury Sam Timothy
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation has announced the passing of one of its Board of Administration members, Sury Sam Timothy, describing his death as a major loss to the sport.
Timothy, who served as the federation’s Technical Representative, was widely respected for his role in shaping volleyball development in Nigeria. He contributed significantly to policy formulation and worked actively to improve the technical standards of the game nationwide.
Before his appointment to the board, Timothy was Chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Referee Association, where he championed professionalism in officiating. His leadership emphasized referee training and capacity building, helping to raise the quality of officiating across the country.
At the continental level, he served on the Zone 3 Referee Commission of the Confederation of African Volleyball, representing Nigeria in regional and international engagements. His contributions earned him recognition across Africa’s volleyball community.
In its official statement, the federation described Timothy as a dedicated administrator, accomplished referee, and mentor whose legacy will endure in Nigerian volleyball.
The NVBF extended condolences to his family, the Kogi State Government, colleagues, and the broader sporting community, while also acknowledging the outpouring of tributes from across Africa and beyond. Appreciation was specifically expressed to Bouchra Hajij, President of the CAVB, and Ali Yaro for their messages of solidarity.
Details of burial arrangements are expected to be announced at a later date.
