Education Gets Largest Allocation as Gov. Yusuf Presents N1.36trn 2026 Budget to Kano Assembly
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday presented a proposed N1.36 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a strategic plan to consolidate ongoing projects and accelerate development across key sectors.
Tagged “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development,” the proposal prioritises capital investment, human capital development and long-term institutional reforms.
Yusuf said the total budget size stands at N1,368,127,929,271, with N934.64 billion (68%) allocated to capital expenditure and N433.48 billion (32%) to recurrent expenditure. He said the capital-heavy structure reflects his administration’s resolve to channel more resources into growth-driven initiatives.
According to the governor, the Economic and Social sectors received the largest share of the capital vote, with Education, Health and Infrastructure topping the allocation chart.
Education was allocated N405.35 billion (30%), Health received N212.25 billion (16%), while Infrastructure got N346.28 billion (25%). Yusuf said the figures demonstrate the government’s commitment to strengthening human capital and service delivery.
He added that other sectors — including Agriculture, Water Resources, Security, Commerce, Investment, Women and Youth Development, Tourism, Environment, Climate Change and Transport — also received significant allocations.
Yusuf noted that his administration had implemented over 80% of its development blueprint and would intensify efforts as it approaches the third quarter of its four-year mandate. He described the 2026 budget as “a covenant with the people,” adding that it is bold but realistic and designed to build a resilient and prosperous state.
The governor urged lawmakers to ensure the timely passage of the budget, stressing that legislative cooperation and oversight remain crucial for effective implementation. He commended the assembly for what he described as unprecedented support since he assumed office, saying the partnership had strengthened governance despite political differences.
Yusuf also thanked residents, commissioners, MDAs, development partners and civil society groups for contributing to the drafting process. Hey I prayed for Allah’s guidance and reaffirmed his commitment to transparent and accountable leadership.
The budget was formally laid before the House for consideration.
Responding, Speaker Alhaji Jibrin Falgore assured the governor of the legislature’s commitment to ensuring timely passage of the Appropriation Bill to maintain the state’s January–December budget cycle. He commended Yusuf for “remarkable strides” in infrastructure, security, healthcare and education.
Falgore reaffirmed the assembly’s readiness to provide effective oversight and support policies aimed at driving sustainable development across the state.
