Super Eagles drop to 44th in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one spot to 44th in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday, gaining 2.91 points to bring their total to 1484.26.

The slight shift comes after their recent international run, which included two draws and a win, results that offered modest gains but weren’t enough to maintain their previous 43rd position.

Nigeria now sits between Paraguay, who moved ahead, and Côte d’Ivoire, who slipped four places to 45th with 1483.45 points after a string of poor results.

At the top of the global table, Argentina held on to their No. 1 spot despite a slight drop of 0.8 points. Spain surged into second place, gaining 12.45 points to overtake France, who now sit third. England and Brazil complete the top five.

Further down, Portugal and the Netherlands each climbed one spot to 6th and 7th, respectively, with Portugal recording the biggest gain among the top ten, a 20.45-point boost. Germany slipped to 9th, despite no change in points, while Italy fell two places to 11th after losing 15.73 points.

Mexico made the most significant leap within the top 20, jumping four spots to 13th with a hefty 42.79-point increase. The United States and Norway also saw notable improvements, each gaining over 20 points.

San Marino remains rooted at the bottom of the rankings in 210th place with 738.24 points.

FIFA’s world rankings are updated regularly based on international match results, and they play a key role in determining seedings for major tournaments.
