Super Falcons, Shakirat Moshood make final shortlist for 2025 CAF Awards

The Nigeria Super Falcons have been named among the final contenders for the 2025 CAF Women’s Team of the Year award.

Announced on Friday, the shortlist features the 10-time WAFCON winners fresh off their dramatic 2024 title triumph in Morocco, where they overturned a 2–0 deficit to beat the hosts 3–2 in the final. The Falcons won five of their six matches, kept four clean sheets, and conceded only twice from open play in a commanding campaign.

Nigeria, who won the award last year, will battle hosts Morocco and bronze medallists Ghana for the 2025 honour. Morocco, runners-up at WAFCON 2024, reached consecutive finals after finishing second to South Africa in 2022. Ghana completes the three-team shortlist after edging South Africa in the third-place match.

In the individual category, Nigeria U17 captain Shakirat Moshood has been named among the final three nominees for the 2025 CAF Young Player of the Year (Women). The Bayelsa Queens midfielder starred in the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership season and finished as top scorer at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

Moshood also led the Flamingos to the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. She will compete for the award against Morocco’s Moha El Madani and Senegal’s Adji Ndiye, with the winners to be announced on Wednesday, 19 November 2025.
