Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu nominated for 2025 Ballon d'Or Johan Cruyff Trophy

Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, has been nominated for the prestigious 2025 Ballon D’Or Awards.

The Nigerian tactician was officially named on Thursday among the nominees for the Women’s Team Coach of the Year, known as the Johan Cruyff Trophy, an award that honours the best women’s team coach in the world.

Since taking charge of the Super Falcons in late 2023, Madugu has masterminded a remarkable revival. Under his leadership, Nigeria stormed through the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) unbeaten, conceding only one goal and defeating three former champions on their way to the final.

In a thrilling WAFCON final against host nation Morocco, Madugu's tactical acumen was once again on display. The Super Falcons mounted a stunning comeback from two goals down to claim a dramatic 3–2 victory, sealing Nigeria’s record-extending 10th continental title.

Madugu joins a shortlist of elite coaches vying for the Johan Cruyff Trophy, including Sonia Bompastor (Chelsea), Arthur Elias (Brazil), Renée Slegers (Arsenal), and Sarina Wiegman (England).
