Super Falcons set to face Tanzania in pre-WAFCON friendly
Nigeria's senior women's national team will take on Tanzania's Twiga Stars in an international friendly on Thursday as they put the finishing touches to their preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The match, scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. in Casablanca, will serve as the Falcons' final test before the continental showpiece begins on Sunday, with an official confirmation of the fixture expected shortly.
The encounter comes after Nigeria's planned warm-up game against Ghana's Black Queens was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, leaving head coach Justin Madugu with one last opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the tournament.
The defending champions will begin their quest for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28, before taking on Zambia on Saturday. They will wrap up their Group C campaign against Egypt the following Wednesday.
Tanzania, who are drawn in Group B, will open their campaign against South Africa on Monday before facing Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast in their remaining group matches.
Both teams arrive in Morocco with contrasting continental histories. Nigeria remain the most successful side in WAFCON history, having lifted a record 10th title in Morocco last year. Tanzania, on the other hand, are preparing for just their third appearance at the tournament and will be aiming to better their previous group-stage exits.
Meanwhile, preparations have continued smoothly in the Super Falcons' camp, with 23 players now in Casablanca. The team is expected to train in Mohammedia on Wednesday evening as Madugu and his technical crew make final adjustments ahead of the title defence.
