2027 Election: Labour Party Fixes Presidential Form at ₦50m, Grants Otti Free Ticket
The Labour Party Nigeria (LP) has pegged its presidential expression of interest and nomination forms at ₦50 million ahead of the 2027 general elections, while granting a free nomination ticket to Alex Otti.
The party also unveiled its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 primaries, with concessions for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.
₦50m Presidential Form, Concessions for Special Groups
Asogwa confirmed that the presidential ticket comes at a combined cost of ₦50 million.
“For the presidential ticket, expression of interest form costs ₦10,000,000, while the nomination form costs ₦40,000,000, bringing the total to ₦50,000,000,” he said.
He added that in line with the party’s philosophy of fairness:
“Female aspirants, people living with disabilities and youths aged 25 to 30 would only be required to pay for the expression of interest forms for all positions.”
Otti Gets Free Nomination
The LP also approved a waiver for Governor Alex Otti.
According to Asogwa, the party’s National Working Committee decided to grant him the nomination form free of charge, underscoring internal support for his leadership.
Timetable for Primaries Released
The party outlined key dates for its electoral process:
- Sale of Forms: May 6 – May 16, 2026
- Submission of Forms: May 17 – May 18, 2026
“Screening of aspirants for House of Assembly and Governorship election will be on May 20 while that of the National Assembly and the Presidential election will be on May 22,” Asogwa stated.
He added:
“Results of the screening will be published on May 23.”
Appeals and petitions are scheduled as follows:
- May 24: House of Assembly and Governorship
- May 25: National Assembly and Presidential
“The final list of cleared aspirants will be published on May 26,” he said.
Primary elections will then take place:
- May 27: House of Assembly and Governorship
- May 29: National Assembly and Presidential
Breakdown of Nomination Fees
The party also released detailed costs for other elective offices:
“For house of assembly, the expression of interest form costs ₦1,000,000, while the nomination form costs ₦2,000,000, bringing the total to ₦3,000,000.
For the House of Representatives, the expression of interest form costs ₦1,500,000 and the nomination form ₦3,500,000, totalling ₦5,000,000.
Senatorial aspirants are to pay ₦2,500,000 for the expression of interest form and ₦7,500,000 for the nomination form, amounting to ₦10,000,000.
Governorship aspirants will pay ₦5,000,000 for the expression of interest form and ₦20,000,000 for the nomination form, totalling ₦25,000,000.”
Membership Drive Ahead of INEC Deadline
The party also urged prospective aspirants to complete their membership registration.
“Registration is open from May 3 to midnight of May 4, ahead of compilation and submission of the party’s membership register,” Asogwa noted, in compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.
The LP said its timetable aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the Constitution, as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
