Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza: Statement by Morocco's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
17 January 2025
Rabat – Two days before the Gaza ceasefire agreement takes effect, the Kingdom of Morocco, led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who chairs the Al-Quds Committee, welcomes the progress made towards halting the hostilities and attacks on civilians that have plagued the region since October 7, 2023.
In a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, the Kingdom emphasizes: “Morocco calls on all Palestinian and Israeli parties to embrace peace and demonstrate sincere and constructive commitment, free from any short-term or opportunistic motives.”
The statement further stresses Morocco’s hope that the ceasefire agreement will be fully respected and will lead to the cessation of attacks on civilians, the safe return of displaced persons, and the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities.
As underscored by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in his Royal Message to the recent Arab Summit, it is critical to ensure that the resolution of one crisis does not give rise to another. The Kingdom of Morocco envisions this ceasefire as the first step towards a genuine peace process, one that facilitates the establishment of a Palestinian State based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living peacefully alongside Israel.
