David Okereke sparks survival hope as Cremonese fight back in relegation duel

Nigerian forward David Okereke delivered a timely reminder of his attacking quality, coming off the bench to score a vital goal for US Cremonese in their tense Serie A relegation clash against ACF Fiorentina.

Introduced at the start of the second half, Okereke made an immediate impact, reducing the deficit in the 57th minute to ignite hopes of a comeback for the hosts.

The strike marked his first goal of the campaign, ending a difficult run in front of goal and potentially arriving at the most critical stage of the season.

Cremonese’s campaign has been a struggle, with inconsistency and defensive lapses leaving them stuck in the bottom three for much of the season.

Their return to Serie A after promotion has proven challenging, as they battle more established sides with deeper squads and greater experience.

Despite their position, the club has shown flashes of resilience, particularly in home fixtures, where they have managed to compete against stronger opposition.

Okereke, who previously impressed during loan spells and earlier stints in Italy, has often been relied upon for his pace and direct attacking threat, even though goals have been scarce this term.

With 24 points from 29 matches, Cremonese sit 18th on the table, just three points away from safety.

The margin keeps survival within reach, but with only nine matches remaining, every point and every goal carries enormous weight.

Okereke’s strike could prove to be more than just a consolation. It may serve as a turning point for both the player and the club as they push to defy the odds and secure their top flight status.
