ISWAP IED Attack Kills CJTF Commander In Borno

A commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force was killed after suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province detonated an improvised explosive device targeting his vehicle near Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources said the explosion occurred along a route near the Lake Chad axis while the commander was travelling.

According to the sources, the blast destroyed the vehicle and killed the CJTF commander instantly.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed that the deceased was a prominent CJTF commander known for actively supporting military operations against terrorist groups in the North-East.

ISWAP, which is notorious for planting improvised explosive devices along major access roads in the Lake Chad region, is suspected to be behind the attack.

The group has repeatedly targeted security personnel as well as pro-government militias operating in the North-East.

The latest incident comes days after the military issued a security advisory ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, warning residents in Borno and other parts of the North-East to remain vigilant against possible IED attacks during the festive period.

Residents were advised to avoid crowded areas and immediately report suspicious objects or movements to security agencies.
