Morocco, Senegal reaffirm commitment to deepening strategic partnership
Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, on Monday, 26 January 2026, held talks in Rabat with his Senegalese counterpart, Ousmane Sonko, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom for the 15th session of the High Joint Commission for the Moroccan-Senegalese Partnership.
The meeting was attended by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, as well as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Senegal, Hassan Ennassiri.
During the discussions, both leaders reaffirmed the strong commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal to further elevate their bilateral cooperation to multidimensional levels, in line with the vision and aspirations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Both sides stressed their determination to remain faithful to the long-standing spirit of brotherhood, solidarity and mutual respect that has defined relations between the two countries and guided their shared commitment to the development of the African continent. They also commended the positive role played by the Moroccan community in Senegal and the Senegalese community in Morocco in strengthening ties between the two nations.
Akhannouch highlighted the depth of the human, religious and economic relations binding Morocco and Senegal, pointing to the eight official visits paid by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Senegal as a reflection of the strength of the partnership. He further praised Senegal’s pivotal role in supporting Royal Initiatives aimed at promoting development across Africa, notably the Royal Initiative to improve Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review progress made in ministerial exchanges, the reinforcement of the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation, and the consolidation of economic partnerships and investments since Bassirou Diomaye Faye assumed office as President of Senegal.
The ongoing 15th session of the High Joint Commission for the Moroccan-Senegalese Partnership was described as a key platform to deepen sectoral cooperation, particularly through the implementation of structuring projects in agriculture, energy, trade, the digital economy and other strategic fields.
