NFF takes control of league administration, suspends boards
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has suspended the administrative activities of the boards overseeing the country’s major domestic leagues, directing their chairmen, appointed directors and chief executive officers to hand over the running of their respective competitions to NFF appointed Chief Operating Officers (COOs).
The directive affects the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and Nationwide League One (NLO).
According to the NFF, the affected league officials are to transfer the administration of their respective leagues to the COOs, who are members of staff of the federation.
Where a league’s current COO is not an NFF staff member, the federation’s Acting General Secretary has been directed to deploy a new COO from within the NFF.
The federation said the interim arrangement is aimed at ensuring continuity in the administration of Nigerian football while discussions are held with FIFA, CAF, the government and other key stakeholders on a roadmap for comprehensive reforms of the country’s football system.
The NFF added that further steps would be taken following the conclusion of the ongoing engagements and activation of the proposed reform process.
“Further changes and directives will be communicated in due course,” the federation stated.
