Nigeria Customs appoint Jonah Adamu, Priscilla Agera as supervising volleyball coaches

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have appointed former Nigeria international Jonah Adamu as the supervising head coach of their men’s and women’s volleyball teams.

The appointment was announced by the Head of Sports of the Nigeria Customs Service, Samuel Onikeku, following the team’s friendly match against the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) on Wednesday, October 14.

Onikeku also confirmed the appointment of All African Games gold medallist Priscilla Agera as the supervising coach for the women’s team, where she will oversee the newly assembled coaching crew.

Agera, who won gold medals in volleyball and beach volleyball at the All African Games, will supervise Francisca Ikhiede, Bose Melaye and Tosin Bukky, who recently acquired their FIVB Level I coaching certifications.

Explaining Adamu’s responsibilities, Onikeku said the former international would take charge of the men’s team during matches while remaining available to oversee the women’s side whenever necessary.

“Former Nigeria international, Jonah Adamu has been appointed as the supervising coach of the men and women team.

“He will handle the men's team during the matches and can be drafted to oversee the women's team whenever the occasion arises as he's supervising both teams,” Onikeku said.

The Head of Sports added that Agera’s appointment would strengthen the technical structure of the women’s team and provide supervision for the new coaching personnel.

The appointments come as the Nigeria Customs Service intensify preparations for the second phase of the 2026 Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League, scheduled to serve off on October 16.

Onikeku disclosed that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, had invested significantly in the teams as they prepare for the next phase of the competition.

The NCS will be hoping that the strengthened technical setup and continued institutional support translate into improved performances as the league resumes.
