Nigeria’s Flamingos will bid to complete a perfect campaign when they face Togo in their final match of the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup on Sunday in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The encounter, scheduled for 10:00am Nigerian time at the INPHB Centre, comes with Nigeria sitting firmly at the top of the six-team standings after winning all four of their matches. 

Coach Akeem Busari’s side have accumulated 12 points from four games, scoring 13 goals and conceding only twice. The Flamingos therefore need just a draw against Togo to secure the regional title, while victory would complete a five-match winning run. 

Nigeria began their campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over Niger before overcoming Ghana 4-2 in a six-goal contest.

The Flamingos subsequently defeated Burkina Faso 2-0 before producing another 2-0 victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday to maintain their 100 per cent record. 

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring against Côte d’Ivoire in the fourth minute, while substitute Pattra Oparanmegwa added the second in the 83rd minute to give Nigeria another clean sheet and maximum points. 

The result against the hosts extended Nigeria’s advantage at the top of the table to three points over Ghana, who have nine points heading into the final round of fixtures. 

Togo, meanwhile, have collected three points from their opening four matches. Their only victory came against Niger, while they have suffered defeats against Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Burkina Faso. 

The Togolese side will therefore be looking to finish their campaign strongly, but face a Flamingos team that has combined attacking efficiency with defensive discipline throughout the tournament.

Nigeria’s strong run has also provided valuable competitive preparation ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, scheduled for October 17 to November 7. 

The Flamingos have already had to navigate different tactical challenges in Côte d’Ivoire, including their 4-2 victory over Ghana after being reduced to 10 players following Elizabeth Adesuyi’s dismissal.

Another interesting feature of the final matchday is that a penalty shootout will be held after every game regardless of the result after 90 minutes.

However, the shootout outcome will not affect the league standings, meaning Nigeria will be crowned champions with a win or draw in regulation time. 

The objective is straightforward For Busari and his players, avoid defeat, lift the WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup and finish their regional campaign with an unbeaten record.

A victory would give Nigeria five wins from five and further boost the team’s confidence before the Flamingos turn their attention to preparations for the global U17 tournament in Morocco.
