Nigerian youngster Shakirat Moshood speaks on Torreense dream after Portuguese transfer
Newly signed SCU Torreense defender Shakirat Moshood has expressed her excitement after completing her move to the Portuguese club, promising to give everything to justify the opportunity and make Nigeria proud.
The former Nigeria U-17 captain sealed a two-year move to the Europa-bound side after an impressive campaign with Bayelsa Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership and was officially unveiled by the club on Wednesday.
Speaking after completing the transfer, the 18-year-old described the move as a dream come true and vowed to repay the confidence shown in her by the Portuguese outfit.
“I am very happy to be able to give my best to help the team and honor my family and my country,” Moshood told the club media.
The move marks Moshood’s first professional experience in Europe after rising through the ranks of Nigerian women’s football.
She announced herself on the global stage at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, where she scored four goals to finish as the tournament’s third-highest scorer and helped the Flamingos reach the quarter-finals.
Moshood further enhanced her growing reputation by captaining Nigeria to another quarter-final finish at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco before finishing as runner-up for the 2025 CAF Women’s Youth Player of the Year award.
Her impressive performances also earned her a place in Nigeria’s 28-player provisional squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland after starring for the Falconets during the qualification campaign under head coach Moses Aduku.
Moshood is expected to join her new teammates immediately as Torreense begin preparations for the new season, with the Portuguese club set to compete in both domestic competitions and the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup.
