Official: Toni Payne Completes Move to Inter Milan Ahead of 2026 WAFCON

Italian Women's Serie A side Inter Milan have completed the signing of Super Falcons midfielder Toni Payne, adding the experienced Nigerian international to their squad on a long-term contract.

The Nerazzurre confirmed the transfer on Saturday, announcing that Payne has signed a three-year deal that will keep her at the club until June 2028.

The move sees the 30-year-old leave Women's Super League outfit Everton after one season in England, as she embarks on a new chapter in Italian football ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Inter's acquisition of Payne is viewed as a significant boost to the club's midfield, with the Nigerian bringing versatility, creativity and top-level experience gained across several European leagues.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Nigerian parents, Payne began her professional career in Europe with Dutch giants Ajax in 2017 before moving to Spain a year later.

It was at Sevilla where she truly established herself, spending six seasons with the Liga F side and becoming one of the club's most influential players.

During her time in Spain, Payne made 168 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals while earning a reputation for her technical quality, work rate and ability to operate in multiple attacking and midfield roles.

Her consistent performances earned her a move to Everton in 2024, where she continued to feature regularly in the English Women's Super League.

On the international stage, Payne represented the United States at youth level before committing her senior international future to Nigeria in 2021.

Since making her Super Falcons debut, she has developed into one of the team's most dependable performers, featuring at major international tournaments and playing a key role in Nigeria's midfield.

Her transfer to Inter Milan comes at an important moment in her career, with the midfielder preparing to represent Nigeria at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Head coach Justine Madugu included Payne in his 25-player squad for the continental championship, which runs from July 25 to August 16, where the Super Falcons will be aiming to reclaim the African title.

The move to Inter offers Payne another opportunity to compete at the highest level of European football while arriving at the tournament with renewed confidence ahead of a crucial campaign for both club and country.
