Paul Onuachu, Victor Osimhen lead Nigerian charge abroad

Nigerian stars abroad delivered another weekend of statement performances across Europe, headlined by Paul Onuachu’s ruthless form in Turkey and Victor Osimhen’s all-round brilliance for league leaders Galatasaray.

Onuachu picked up right where he left off, opening the scoring in Trabzonspor’s 3-1 victory over Fatih Karagümrük on Friday. The towering striker struck in the 20th minute before compatriot Chibuike Nwaiwu announced himself in style with a quick-fire brace in the second half, his first goals for the Turkish giants. Onuachu turned provider for Nwaiwu’s second, capping a dominant outing that underlined his importance to the side.

At the summit of the Turkish Super Lig, Galatasaray maintained their grip with a commanding 3-1 win over Alanyaspor. Osimhen was once again at the heart of it all, scoring and assisting to steer the leaders to another comfortable home triumph.

Elsewhere in Turkey, Ibrahim Olawoyin played a decisive role as Rizespor thrashed Kasımpaşa 3-0 to edge closer to safety. The Nigerian midfielder provided an assist for Adedire Mebude, while Halil Dervisoglu and Valentine Mihaila were also on target in a clinical team display.

In Portugal, Terem Moffi opened his account for Porto in their 3-1 win over Arouca. After goals from Oskar Pietuszewski and William Gomes set the tone, Moffi sealed the victory with a stoppage-time strike his first since arriving from Nice. Defender Zaidu Sanusi also featured for the hosts.

Back in England, Alex Iwobi continued his red-hot involvement for Fulham in their 2-1 victory over Tottenham. For the third straight week, the midfielder played a direct role in a goal, combining neatly with Harry Wilson in a swift one-two before finishing off the post to double the Cottagers’ lead. Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze were also in action in the encounter.

In the Championship, Frank Onyeka maintained his impressive form as Coventry City edged Stoke City 2-1 to move eight points clear at the top. Meanwhile, Tochukwu Nnadi made his debut for Marseille in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Lyon as the French giants boosted their European ambitions.

Ademola Lookman featured for 45 minutes in Atletico Madrid’s narrow 1-0 win over Real Oviedo, while Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were involved as Sevilla fought back from two goals down to snatch a draw at Real Betis.
