Peter Obi May Join ADC After Anambra Governorship Election – Tanko

Abuja, Nigeria – The National President of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has confirmed that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will decide on joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8.

Tanko made the disclosure in an interview on Sunday, in response to calls by ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, for all coalition leaders to formally resign from their current political parties and register with the ADC.

He explained that Obi had been granted a waiver by the ADC to delay his official defection, adding that there is no pressure on the former Anambra State governor to make an immediate move.

“The waiver still stands for us. They [ADC] made the announcement but didn’t revoke it. If others are joining now, it’s fine. Very soon, our principal will make his position known,” Tanko said.

He emphasized that the decision to wait until after the Anambra poll was strategic and agreed upon in advance.

“We agreed it would be after the Anambra November election. People saw us campaigning for [Chukwuma] Moghalu in Anambra, so it wouldn’t make sense to shift focus before that election is concluded,” he added.

Tanko also clarified that the ADC had not issued any deadline or ultimatum regarding Obi’s membership.

“Obi can only make his position known after the Anambra election. But for now, he is currently out of the country delivering a paper,” he said.

Peter Obi has not made any public statement on the matter.
