Police Tighten Security Ahead of Nigeria Vs Rwanda World Cup Qualifier

With excitement building ahead of Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Rwanda’s Amavubi, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has assured fans and visitors of maximum security at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

“All arrangement has been put in place to ensure a hitch-free World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Rwanda this coming Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo,” Commissioner of Police (CP) Baba Mohammed Azare told journalists at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.

The police boss added that the command is leaving nothing to chance in securing the high-profile fixture. “We are determined to guarantee that football-loving Nigerians enjoy the football match under a peaceful atmosphere devoid of any infractions of law and has directed the deployment of specially selected officers knowledgeable in crowd control and policing events to provide top-notch security before, during and after the football match,” he said. Azare also appealed to fans to maintain decorum while cheering the Super Eagles, stressing that “sport is a veritable means to promote unity, solidarity and cultivate enduring friendship.”

Nigeria, currently fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, must secure victory against Rwanda on September 6 before heading to Bloemfontein to face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on September 9 in another crucial qualifier.
