Soldiers Block FCT Minister Wike from Accessing Land in Abuja

Abuja — There was tension in Abuja on Tuesday as soldiers reportedly prevented the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from accessing a disputed parcel of land in the nation’s capital.

In a video obtained by POLITICS NIGERIA, the incident escalated into a confrontation between the minister’s security detail and the military personnel guarding the site. The situation momentarily turned chaotic as both parties exchanged words, forcing Wike to intervene to prevent a physical clash.

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers stood their ground and refused to allow the minister entry, despite his insistence that the land was under the purview of the FCT Administration.

Visibly angered by the development, Wike accused the soldiers of acting without legal authority, stressing that no one is above the law. He also questioned the legitimacy of the ongoing development on the site, alleging that proper procedures were not followed.

“You have no document,” the minister was heard saying in the video. “We cannot continue to act in impunity. We cannot continue this way. This country cannot go along this line.”

The soldiers, however, maintained that they were acting on superior orders.

The confrontation has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the perceived clash of authority between the FCT Administration and the military.

As of press time, neither the Nigerian Army nor the FCT Administration had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
