Sule rebuts alleged Atiku meeting, describes report as political sabotage

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has firmly denied reports linking him to a purported secret meeting with former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The denial follows earlier claims suggesting that the governor held a private engagement with Atiku during the lesser Hajj, allegedly involving discussions on political support ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, the Nasarawa State Government dismissed the report as “a complete fabrication” and “false in its entirety,” stressing that no such meeting ever occurred.

“At no point during his stay did Governor Sule meet with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or anyone close to him,” the statement read, directly countering the narrative of a two-hour dinner or any form of political agreement.

The government further clarified that Governor Sule was not even aware of Atiku’s presence in Saudi Arabia, describing the claims as “fiction dressed as journalism,” with no basis in fact.

Adding to the rebuttal, the statement referenced comments attributed to Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe, who reportedly expressed no knowledge of any such meeting—further weakening the credibility of the allegation.

The state government also alleged that the report was orchestrated by political actors seeking to strain the relationship between Governor Sule and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reaffirming the governor’s political stance, the statement emphasized his consistent loyalty to President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It recalled that Sule recently seconded a motion endorsing Tinubu as the North-Central zone’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

“Governor Sule has always publicly expressed his support for President Tinubu and his administration. He does not say one thing in public and another in private,” the statement noted.

Describing the report as a “calculated act of political sabotage,” the government urged the public to disregard what it termed a misleading and baseless publication aimed at undermining the governor’s credibility and political alignment.
