Super Eagles eye East Africa redemption as CAF locks 2027 AFCON dates

Nigeria’s quest for continental glory has been handed fresh momentum after the Confederation of African Football confirmed the schedule for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, opening a new chapter of ambition for the Super Eagles.

Set to run from June 19 to July 18, 2027, the tournament will return to its traditional mid year window and be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda a historic collaboration that shifts the spotlight to East Africa.

For the Nigeria national football team, the announcement signals more than just dates it offers a shot at redemption. After finishing third in the last edition held in Morocco, the team, now guided by Eric Chelle, will be targeting a fourth continental crown.

Focus will soon turn to the qualification series, where Nigeria is expected to enter as one of the top seeded sides when the draw is conducted later this year.

The road to East Africa begins there. However, the buildup to the tournament has not been without concern. Questions linger over the readiness of the co hosts, with reports pointing to delays in infrastructure and logistics.

Despite this, CAF remains confident that all three nations will meet the standards required to stage Africa’s biggest football event.

As anticipation builds, the 2027 AFCON promises not just competition, but a defining moment for Nigeria to reassert its dominance on the continent.
