Tinubu commissions 3.9km Katampe Dual Carriageway
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the newly completed Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard) and Important Local Street 5 (ILS5) in the Katampe District of Abuja, describing the project as a major milestone in infrastructure delivery and national renewal.
The 3.9-kilometer dual carriageway, executed by China Geo-Engineering Construction (CGC) Nigeria Limited within seven months, opens up the Katampe and Mabushi corridors, linking them directly to key arterial routes including Yemi Osinbajo Way and Wole Soyinka Way, which connect onward to the Outer Northern (Murtala Mohammed/Kubwa) Expressway.
In a keynote address delivered on his behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu said the CN2 project goes beyond physical infrastructure, describing it as a symbol of renewed public confidence in government delivery.
He noted that the road was built to modern engineering standards, including solar-powered street lighting, which has improved night visibility, enhanced security, and revitalized nightlife in the district.
According to him, “We have installed solar street lights, and today Katampe is bright at night. Abuja’s city life is coming back, and criminal hideouts are disappearing. A road like CN2 is more than concrete—it represents hope.”
Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a results-driven approach to governance, saying the administration has continued to deliver visible transformation across the capital.
He highlighted ongoing works including new boulevards on previously abandoned routes, water infrastructure, and judicial housing projects.
“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. You have not disappointed,” the President stated.
He also urged residents to protect public infrastructure, comply with tax and ground rent obligations, and avoid converting pedestrian walkways into markets or vandalizing solar installations.
Speaking earlier, Wike said the project has already triggered rapid private estate development and commercial activity in Katampe, while also creating employment opportunities for engineers, artisans, and labourers.
He thanked President Tinubu for his support and praised collaboration within the FCTA team, including the Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, and the engineering leadership of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Wike also announced that the administration would proceed to Karu for the commissioning of a major water supply project serving satellite towns.
Providing technical details, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, said the contract was awarded in November 2025 as part of ongoing infrastructure expansion in the FCT.
He explained that the road comprises a dual carriageway with six lanes in total, a 2-meter median, parking lanes, and full engineering infrastructure including drainage systems, water pipelines, sewer networks, telecom ducts, solar street lighting, walkways, and green verges.
According to him, the project has significantly improved connectivity between Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama, and surrounding districts, while also reducing travel time and improving security.
The contractor, China Geo-Engineering Construction (CGC) Nigeria Limited, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and local communities for their cooperation.
Managing Director Mr. Lv Haiming said the project was delivered within the agreed timeline and emphasized the company’s commitment to employing and training Nigerian workers throughout the construction process, equipping them with practical engineering skills.
