Victor Osimhen, Stanley Nwabali, Daniel Bameyi nominated for 2025 CAF Awards

Super Eagles stars Victor Osimhen and Stanley Nwabali, alongside Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi, have been shortlisted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for2025 CAF Awards in the men’s category.

Osimhen, who lifted a domestic double with Galatasaray last season, makes a return to Africa’s top ten players after missing out in last year’s edition, won by fellow Nigerian Ademola Lookman. The prolific striker played a key role in helping the Super Eagles secure a World Cup playoff spot, delivering a standout performance in the final round of qualifiers.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United, a nominee in the previous edition, will once again contend for the Goalkeeper of the Year award. He faces competition from South Africa’s Ronwen Williams and Cameroon’s Andre Onana. Both Nwabali and Osimhen were instrumental in Nigeria’s campaign that sealed their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs earlier this month.

Flying Eagles skipper Daniel Bameyi, who impressed at the last AFCON and the recently concluded U20 World Cup in Chile, earned a nomination for the Young Player of the Year award following his consistent performances for club and country.

CAF also released the shortlist for other categories, including Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year.

The 2025 CAF Awards will celebrate players, coaches, and teams who made significant contributions between January 6 and October 15, 2025. A panel comprising CAF Technical and Development Committee members, seasoned coaches, CAF legends, and selected media representatives decided the nominees based on performances across all competitions.

The Awards Gala is scheduled to hold later this year in Morocco.
