Bayelsa United management issues two-match ultimatum to players and coaches
Bayelsa United management has handed a two-match ultimatum to the team’s players and technical crew following a string of poor results in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The decision was made public through a statement released by the club’s media officer on Wednesday.
Club chairman, Dr. Tarilaye Nwankwe announced the ultimatum during an emergency meeting with players and coaches at the team’s camp in Yenagoa.
The Prosperity Boys have won just one of their last seven league games, a run that has left the management increasingly frustrated. The two-game ultimatum will cover this weekend’s away clash with Warri Wolves in Ozoro and the home fixture against Plateau United on October 31, 2025.
Nwankwe explained that the directive became necessary after the team’s disappointing performance against newly-promoted Kun Khalifat last Sunday.
“The Bayelsa State Government has invested heavily in this club, but the results have been far from satisfactory,” Nwankwe said. “We can not continue on this path. The investment must be reflected on the pitch starting this weekend.”
He further emphasized that the move was not intended as a witch-hunt but rather as part of a collective push to realign the club with its vision of becoming one of Nigeria’s leading football sides.
Bayelsa United, led by coach Meremu Okara, will now face a critical period as they take on Warri Wolves and Plateau United in what could determine the future of the team’s technical setup.
