CAF Delegation set to arrive Nigeria on Friday for final inspection ahead of 2026 CAF Awards, General Assembly

A 15-member delegation from the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will arrive in Nigeria on Friday for a second and final inspection of facilities ahead of the country’s hosting of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.

The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja on Saturday, November 21, while the 2026 CAF Awards, the continent’s biggest football awards ceremony, will be held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos on Monday, December 7.

The upcoming inspection follows the first assessment conducted by CAF officials from July 31 to August 4, during which the delegation engaged with executives of various institutions and agencies involved in organising the two events in Lagos and Abuja.

Following those engagements, both parties agreed to maintain regular communication to promote mutual understanding and reach agreements that would ensure the successful delivery of seamless, innovative and forward-looking events.

The 15-member delegation will be led by CAF’s Head of Safety and Security, Dr. Christian Emeruwa, and is expected to arrive in Lagos on Friday afternoon.

During their stay in the commercial capital, the officials will conduct further assessments and hold detailed engagements with executives of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Eko Hotel & Suites and Murtala Muhammed International Airport, as well as officials of the Lagos State Government.

The delegation will subsequently proceed to Abuja, where it will inspect the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The CAF officials are also scheduled to pay courtesy visits to the Chairman and Director-General of the National Sports Commission as part of their engagements in the nation's capital.

The inspections will be coordinated by a six-member delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Dr. Ademola Olajire.

The final assessment represents a key step in Nigeria’s preparations to host the two major continental football events, with the NFF and relevant government agencies working alongside CAF to ensure that the facilities and arrangements meet the required standards.
