Ajax striker Chuba Akpom has reiterated his wish to represent Nigeria at international level.

The 29-years-old forward was born in London to Nigerian parents. 

Although the former PAOK player has represented England at the youth level, he is still eligible to feature for Nigeria. 

Akpom switched his international allegiance in 2019 but has yet to receive a call-up to the Super Eagles since making himself available to play for Nigeria.

“I always give my all. I've been waiting since 2019. I changed my allegiance a while back, and if the opportunity arises, it will happen. I’ll just keep putting in the effort,” he shared with Oma Sports.

Akpom also explained his reasons for the switch, stating, “It’s not that players are switching because they can’t play for England;

"It’s just that they haven’t had the chance to represent Nigeria from a young age. 

"They grow up playing in England and represent England from the youth levels onward."
