NIMC Cautions Against Unauthorized Printing of NIN Cards
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has urged the public to desist from the unauthorized printing of National Identification Number (NIN) cards by individuals, cyber cafés, and organizations.
In line with the NIMC Act No. 23, 2007, the Commission clarifies that the only officially recognized card is the NIMC General Multi-Purpose Card (GMPC). Any other NIN card printed outside the Commission’s authorization is invalid and should not be presented as a means of identification.
NIMC emphasizes that security agencies have been alerted and mandated to take necessary action against those engaging in this unauthorized activity. Anyone found culpable will face legal consequences.
To better serve Nigerians, the Commission has finalized plans to introduce an Improved GMPC, which will offer multifunctional benefits, including use as a physical identification card and a payment card powered by AfriGO, a local payment platform.
The public is advised to rely solely on the NIN slip, which remains the legally recognized document for identification and verification.
