Super Falcons to get new media manager after Mary Akinsola’s exit
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to appoint a new media manager for the Super Falcons following the departure of Mary Akinsola from the position.
Akinsola was appointed by the NFF in June 2025 as the media officer of the senior women’s national team, bringing more than a decade of experience in communications and sports management to the role. She had previously worked with Warner Bros. Discovery (Eurosport), Sports Gazette UK, ACLSports and the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State.
Her tenure included the Super Falcons’ successful campaign at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria secured a record-extending 10th continental title. She subsequently continued in the role around the team’s preparations for the 2026 WAFCON, with her public updates showing her involvement with the Falcons during the tournament.
Akinsola’s exit now leaves the NFF with the task of filling a key communications position around one of the country’s most prominent national teams.
The new media officer will be expected to coordinate the Falcons’ day-to-day media operations, facilitate communication between the team and journalists, manage official information from camp and provide timely content around the team’s international engagements.
The position will also be important as the Super Falcons move into another significant phase of their international programme, with Nigeria’s women’s national team continuing preparations and engagements following the 2026 WAFCON cycle.
Akinsola’s appointment in 2025 was part of the NFF’s effort to strengthen the media and communications structure around the Super Falcons, with the federation at the time describing her as a communications and public relations expert committed to promoting the team’s story and connecting the Falcons with supporters globally.
The NFF is yet to publicly announce a successor in the sources reviewed ahead of October 4 camp resumption for Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers and the identity of the next Super Falcons media officer remains unconfirmed.
