Team Nigeria leaves Aberdeen camp for Glasgow ahead of Commonwealth Games
With only three days remaining before the opening of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Team Nigeria is set to begin its final journey to Glasgow after concluding an intensive training and acclimatization programme in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The first batch of Nigerian athletes and officials will depart Aberdeen on Tuesday, July 21, while a second group is scheduled to arrive at the Games Village on July 24, joining teammates already in Glasgow ahead of the competition.
The movement marks the final phase of Nigeria’s preparations for the Games, following weeks of focused training designed to sharpen athletes physically and mentally for the challenges ahead.
Backed by the National Sports Commission (NSC), Team Nigeria has enjoyed comprehensive technical, medical and welfare support throughout the Aberdeen camp.
The Commission has consistently emphasized athlete welfare and performance readiness as key pillars of the country's campaign for success in Glasgow.
Nigeria will compete across multiple sporting disciplines, with expectations high following a series of encouraging performances by Nigerian athletes at major continental and international events in recent months.
The delegation boasts a blend of experienced stars and emerging talents eager to make their mark on the Commonwealth stage.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from July 23 to August 2, bringing together approximately 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations.
A total of 215 gold medals will be contested across 11 sports during the multi-sport spectacle.
Scotland will host the Games for the fourth time, having previously staged the event in Edinburgh in 1970 and 1986, and Glasgow in 2014.
As Team Nigeria makes the short trip from Aberdeen to Glasgow, confidence remains high within the camp that the athletes are fully prepared to compete with distinction and proudly fly the nation's flag at one of the Commonwealth's biggest sporting gatherings.
