CGC Volleyball Premier League third edition serves off in Abuja
The third edition of the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League officially got underway on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Abuja, with an impressive display of power, resilience, and competitiveness across both the male and female categories.
The first phase of the tournament, held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, featured a series of tightly contested encounters that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
In the men’s category, Nigeria Correctional Service staged a strong comeback to defeat UCEM Volleyball Club 3-1. After dropping the first set 21-25, the Correctional Service team responded decisively, taking the next three sets 25-20, 25-21, and 25-22 to seal victory in dramatic fashion.
In another closely fought encounter, Defence Spikers were edged 2-3 by CNS Spikers in a five-set thriller. Defence Spikers took the opening set 25-20 but lost momentum as CNS Spikers fought back to claim the next sets 25-12, 23-25, 25-22, and 17-15.
The match between Life Camp VC and Nigeria Police also delivered high drama, with Nigeria Police rallying from two sets down to win 3-2. Life Camp VC dominated early with 25-19 and 25-21 wins, but Nigeria Police responded strongly to take the next three sets 25-13, 25-20, and 15-10.
One of the most entertaining fixtures saw Nigeria Customs Service overcome NSCDC 3-1 after recovering from a first-set loss. NSCDC edged the opener 25-23, but Customs bounced back to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-17, and 31-29 in a fiercely contested finale.
Elsewhere, Offa VC defeated Ajase Ipo 3-1, recording set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, and 25-20, while COAS Spikers triumphed over Kano Pillars by the same 3-1 margin, winning 25-17, 25-18, 17-25, and 25-17.
In the women’s category, VIP & Partners delivered a commanding 3-0 win over Kada Emeralds, with tight set scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22, despite strong resistance from the Kaduna-based side.
Nigeria Customs Service women’s team also impressed, sweeping aside Benue Queens in straight sets 25-13, 25-22, and 25-10, showcasing dominance across all departments.
In a more balanced contest, Olalomi Royal Angels fell 1-3 to Fire Service despite winning the first set 26-24. Fire Service responded strongly to take the next sets 27-25, 27-25, and 25-16.
CNS Spikers continued their strong form in the women’s division, defeating Excelsior 3-0 with commanding scores of 25-10, 25-8, and 25-18.
The final women’s match saw NAF Rockets fall 2-3 to Life Camp VC in another five-set encounter. After splitting the first four sets (22-25, 21-25, 25-9, 25-19), Life Camp VC dominated the decider 15-7 to complete a spirited comeback.
The opening day of the CGC Volleyball Premier League set a strong tone for the competition, with teams across both categories showcasing depth, stamina, and determination as the tournament continues.
