Super Eagles hold 26th position as FIFA rankings shake up global order
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings for March, holding steady after a mixed but productive international window.
Eric Chelle’s side recorded a 2-1 victory over Iran and played out a 2-2 draw against Jordan during the break, results that slightly boosted their standing to 1585.09 points. The margin has proven significant, with the three-time African champions now sitting more than five points clear of 27th-placed Australia.
On the continental stage, Nigeria remain firmly third in Africa, reinforcing their status among the elite sides under the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Globally, there has been movement at the summit. France have climbed into first place, overtaking both Spain and Argentina. European champions Spain now sit second, while World Cup holders Argentina drop to third. England hold on to fourth position, and Portugal complete the top five after a slight rise.
The rest of the top 10 features Brazil, the Netherlands, and Morocco, who remain Africa’s highest-ranked nation, Belgium, and Germany.
In Africa, Senegal are ranked 14th in the world and second on the continent, while Algeria (28th) and Egypt (29th) complete the top five behind Nigeria.
Looking ahead, the Super Eagles will have a chance to climb higher when they face Poland and Portugal in high-profile friendlies during the June international window fixtures that could prove decisive in shaping their next movement in the global standings.
